PageMaps 8th Anniversary Party has begun

Hello sketch friends and welcome to the PageMaps 8th Anniversary celebration! This party will be going on the whole month of May and we're so happy you'll be joining us! paper mixology with Kelly Goree + a BasicGrey prize

Hello everyone, Kelly Goree here with a special Paper Mixology in celebration of the PageMaps 7th Anniversary! This challenge is sponsored by BasicGrey.

 

I've had this photo to scrapbook since 2008. Seriously. 2008. It's one of my favorites of my two youngest but I never could figure out just what I wanted to do with it. And let's be honest, that royal blue is so vibrant so adding patterned paper with it could make it overwhelming if I wasn't careful. 

So I decided to minimize the patterns just a bit and go more for texture. I used textured cardstock in place of where I would normally use a pattern and it gave me the same result but with a bit less busy-ness. I added elements like buttons and brads and even chipboard under some of my punched stars for extra dimension and "oomph." And to really go crazy, I lifted up the photo with foam adhesive to make sure it stood out and was noticed.

 

 

 

 Mixing patterned papers can sometimes be tricky, but if you break down your papers by scale, you'll discover it's much easier to bring them all together!

 

Try your hand at some paper mixology and you could win a BasicGrey collection pack of your choosing! Just create a layout, based on this sketch, and mix up some patterned paper. One of our design team members, Summer Fullerton, is here with her Colour Suite challenge from April 15th. She hosts this same challenge at Scrapbook & Cards Today and has an inspirational article in each issue, all of which are very popular with our readers and bloggers!

Hey all, Summer here and I'm so happy to join all of you to help celebrate PageMaps' 7th Anniversary! No combo could be sweeter than to join a PageMaps sketch with one of the monthly Colour Suites, and I really enjoyed this challenge! April's palette of colors have been some of my favorite and offer a great way to showcase the super popular navy color that is popping up everywhere! Here's my spin on this color palette. The green and grey really talked to me, and the remaining pink, yellow and navy played supporting roles on my page.

Emily Pitts, one of the designers at SCT, really played up the navy on her awesome layout. The stitching details are very cool!

And Becky Fleck even found the time to join in, creating this super cute card using her Copics.

make your own stamp challenge + prize **contest closed**

My friend, Shanna Vineyard, joins us today with a really cool "Make Your Own Stamp" challenge! And to sweeten the pot, Doodlebug has also joined in with this awesome prize package of their Fruit Stand collection!

Good morning, sketch fans, Shanna here! I was really excited and flattered when Becky asked if I’d like to help celebrate the 7^th Anniversary of Page Maps with her readers. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Page Maps from the very beginning and I regularly check in for inspiration so this was a lot of fun to create something to share today! 

One of my very favorite things to do is create my own foam stamps. There are several ways you can do this.  The first way I’ve shared here is by using some foam letter stickers from your stash and adhering them to an acrylic block. I took the “A” from this package of Thickers and made a plus sign by cutting up a “t” from another package to create an “A+” stamp to use on this teacher card. I stamped all over to create my background paper. Super fun right? 

 

 

Another way you can create your own foam stamps is to use punches or die cuts to cut shapes out of foam.  I traced some flowers I punched out of paper onto this pink foam before I hand cut them out.  You can use foam in most die cut machines to cut out shapes and letters of all kinds so the possibilities are endless!  Once I cut the flowers out of the foam and adhered it to an acrylic block, it was ready to stamp with.  Here’s a few photos of the process. 

Once I stamped several different flowers in two different sizes, I hand cut them out leaving a tiny white border around the image.  Then they are ready to add to my layout like I did below.  Once I had them glued onto my page, I added some buttons for added color and detail.  I glued them to the page using pop dots so they would stand off the page a bit.  I love dimension on my layouts.
