boy-girl challenge with Stephanie Perdue + Fancy Pants prize!

Hi everyone, this is Stephanie and I've got a fun challenge for you today! We've teamed up with Fancy Pants (one of my most favorite companies!) and they are sponsoring this challenge with a collection pack of one of their new lines going to the lucky winner!

I am a busy mom to two boys and don't get a lot of time to scrap. I'm sure there are a lot of you out there in the same boat and I hope you find PageMaps sketches as much of a timesaver as I do!

When I'm going through PageMaps sketches, looking for one that will work with my photos, I often pause for a moment when I hit a more "girly" one, wondering what I can do to change it to fit my boyhood themes. The sketch is perfect, the photos are spot on, the design is great ... but what would I put in place of that flower in the corner? :) I want to let you in on a little secret: I print the sketch and, using a white sharpie, I color out the more girlie parts of the sketch, then go forward designing the page with more boy-like embellishments!

Sarah Webb created another all-boy page based on the same sketch, and you would never know all that frou frou was on the original design! I love how she broke up the single photo into three smaller ones.

So here's your challenge: Create a layout, based on the sketch above, in a boy or girl theme. We'll be looking for something creative in place of the flowery embellishment on the sketch. This contest starts today and ends at midnight MST on Sunday, June 9, 2013. The contest is open to everyone, everywhere!

Have fun!

Stephanie

  1. I can relate. I just think of the girly embellishments as "shapes".

  7. I enjoyed this sketch quite a bit. I had to flip it to fit the photo I chose.
I used flourished and buttons instead of flowers.

  9. I rotated the sketch and used the Baby Boy line from LYB for my baby Girl page. I used a moon and stars in lieu of the floral embellishment. Super sketch, fun challenge. Now, head to my blog and pick me! :) I would love to win!

  12. Thank you for the challenge!! I also sometimes look at a sketch too literally, and this was a good push to look at it a little differently. Here's my take: http://postitnotes-julia.blogspot.com/2013/05/new-couch.html

  15. I definitely do this. With four boys I have to think a little differently about the elements to use. Great challenge. Here is my layout

This one was right up my alley. I'm always scrapping my kids, and with two boys and a tomboy, actually using flowers is a rarity!

It's an anniversary page, so I could have used flowers, but I actually used flourishes and pairs of wood veneers.

  23. I love this sketch so much that I made two layouts with it. One uses flowers (sorry, but the flowers in Park Bench were just too lovely to pass by!), but the other one doesn't.
